Highland Park Parade shooting: 7 dead

7 people have been confirmed dead at the Highland Park Parade shooting which occurred on the 4th of July, 2022.

The 4th of July is known amongst many Americans as America’s Independence Day. It is celebrated annually with parades and festivities. However, on the 4th of July 2022, one parade held in honour of America’s independence in Highland Park, Illinois would soon turn into a bloodbath.

As children and adults marched in the Park in commemoration of the occasion, 21-year-old Robert Crimo opened fire on the attendants from a rooftop : This saw the parade come to a halt. Many took to their heels to save their lives while others sought protection in buildings and other shelters from stray bullets.

7 people were killed, many injured with one 2-year-old orphaned as his parents were part of the death toll. The suspect, Robert Crimo has since been arrested though it is unclear what his motive for committing this horrendous act was.

Highland Park Parade Shooting

This isn’t the first mass shooting this year, as the growing rate of gun violence in the previous months has become a cause of worry.

Earlier this year on the 24th of March, 2022 , the nation was rocked with news of a mass shooting at the Uvalde Elementary school in Texas which claimed 21 lives: 18 of which were kids between the ages of 6 to 12 and 3 adults. This brought up the Sandy hook mass shooting which occurred on 14th of December , 2012, Connecticut. This claimed 26 lives – 20 children and 6 adults.

Another horrendous mass shooting was one in a Buffalo Supermarket on the 14th of May 2022 in New York: This was inspired by racist motives. 10 people were killed.

This was followed by the Tulsa shooting at the Saint Francis hospital which claimed the lives of 5 medical staff members on the 1st of June, 2022 in Oklahoma.
