French socialite and now sex trafficking convict, Ghislaine Maxwell has been served 20 years of jail time for the sex trafficking scheme she carried out with Jeffery Epstein over 2 decades.
Most victims of their schemes were minors, between the ages of 12 to 19. She allegedly groomed them with Epstein to provide sexual pleasure to their large clientele which included some prominent stakeholders.
No one is born a criminal but one’s history can give a better understanding of who they turn out to be.
Ghislaine was born to a French scholar, Elisabeth Maxwell and media mogul, Robert Maxwell in Maison-Laffitte on the 25th of December 1961 in France. As a child, she lost one of her brothers who was fifteen at the time to a tragic car accident. This affected the family deeply as she developed anorexia at a very tender age.
Ghislaine was very close to her father and was said to be his favourite. If the apple indeed doesn’t fall far from the tree, we can say Ghislaine picked up some of his traits as he was involved in shady business. As she grew older, she assisted him on occasions to commit fraud of as much as 200 million dollars. Her father, unfortunately, died in 1991 after his body was found floating in the sea close to a yacht he named after his daughter. Even though his death was ruled an accidental drowning, she strongly believed he was murdered.
Ghislaine is believed to have met Epstein through her father in the late 1980s. Though they dated briefly, they would develop a more cynical relationship which would lead to the manipulation and sexual abuse of many young children.
She was 60 years old by the time she was sentenced.
